Fractional CISO

Fractional CISO: senior security leadership, without the full-time hire

Somebody has to own security. When a customer asks who your CISO is, when the board wants a risk update, or when a questionnaire arrives with a deadline, you need a real answer. KN Cyber gives you an experienced security leader for the hours you need, and our team does the work, not just the slides.

What your fractional CISO owns

  • Security strategy and a 12-month roadmap tied to your sales and product plans
  • The risk register, security policies, and the evidence that they're followed
  • SOC 2, HITRUST readiness, PCI DSS, NIST SP 800-171, ISO 27001, and HIPAA programs, from scoping to report
  • Customer security questionnaires, vendor risk reviews, and security calls with buyers
  • Vendor and subprocessor risk management
  • Incident response planning and tabletop exercises
  • Board and leadership reporting in plain language
  • Selecting and right-sizing security tools, so you don't buy what you won't operate

When it makes sense

  • An enterprise customer, bank, partner, prime contractor, or health plan is asking for SOC 2 or a security review
  • You have a compliance platform but nobody to own the controls behind it
  • Your security lead left, or your CTO is carrying security on nights and weekends
  • Investors, the board, or an insurer want a named owner for security

How it works

First: assessment. We review what exists, interview your team, and deliver a prioritized, dated plan.

Ongoing: execution. A standing weekly cadence, a shared tracker, and direct access through the tools your team already uses.

Every quarter: a leadership review of risk, progress, and next priorities.

Why KN Cyber

  • Hands-on: senior practitioners from our team scope, build, and defend the program.
  • Research-informed: our product security and AI security work draws on KN Cyber's own research programs.
  • Cross-industry: experience across fintech, technology, insurance, and healthcare programs, including security for digital-health vendors that sell to national health plans.
  • Product depth: application security and penetration testing in-house, from a team of security analysts, auditors, and security leaders.
  • Independent: we work with your CPA firm and your compliance platform, and we don't audit our own work.

Fractional CISO FAQs

What's the difference between a fractional CISO and a vCISO?

Mostly the name. Both describe a part-time security leader. At KN Cyber, fractional CISO engagements are led by senior practitioners from our team who also do the hands-on program work.

How is a fractional CISO priced?

As a monthly retainer scoped to your organization's size and needs. Book a 30-minute call and we'll give you a quote.

How many hours a month is a fractional CISO?

It depends on your stage and deadlines. Hours are higher during a SOC 2 build and lower once the program is running. We scope it on the first call.

Can you be named as our CISO on questionnaires and in sales calls?

We can represent your security program in questionnaires and join buyer security calls. We agree up front how KN Cyber is named and titled in those conversations.

Do you work in person?

Sometimes. We're remote-first, with some on-site work available in New Jersey, New York City, and the tri-state area. Our office is in Clark, New Jersey.
