Customer Security Review Sprint
Customer Security Review Sprint
A fixed-scope engagement that gets your company through a customer's security review. When a health plan, health system, bank or other enterprise customer sends a security questionnaire, a contract security exhibit or a vendor risk review, we triage it, find the gaps, draft your answers and hand you a dated plan. Your team can then respond accurately and decide what to build next.
Your tool can draft the answers. We make sure they're true, defensible, and good enough to win the deal.
We sit as the expert layer on top of the compliance platform you already use—not as a replacement for Drata, Vanta or AI questionnaire tools. Scope is agreed in writing before work starts. You know what is included, what you receive and what is not covered.
How we work with your compliance platform
We work inside the platform you already pay for. We are a Vanta MSSP and are experienced with Drata, Secureframe and Thoropass. The Sprint uses that stack for evidence and workflows; the value is the judgment on top: answers that hold up in a buyer review, a clear call on real gaps, and a credentialed person behind what you submit.
What platforms and AI tools miss
Automation drafts and stores evidence. It does not replace an expert review when the ask is high-stakes. The Sprint focuses on what tools typically miss:
- Custom payer or bank contract security exhibits that do not match a standard questionnaire template
- First-time questionnaires where your program and evidence are still thin
- Real gaps that need a dated fix plan with owners, not another green checkbox
- The SOC 2 vs HITRUST (or neither yet) decision for your next customer ask
- A credentialed person who can stand behind the answers on a customer call
Who it is for
- Technology companies selling to health plans, health systems, banks, insurers or other enterprise buyers
- Teams with no full-time security leader, or one whose time is already fully used
- Companies preparing a first SOC 2, or already holding one and now being asked about HITRUST, AI governance or more evidence
- Teams that already run Drata, Vanta, Secureframe, Thoropass or similar and still need expert review of customer security asks
The trigger
This fits when a customer has put a security requirement in front of you, such as:
- A security questionnaire or a vendor risk portal request
- A contract security exhibit or addendum with security terms
- A request for a SOC 2 report, HITRUST status or penetration test evidence
- Questions about how your product uses AI
- A scheduled customer security review with a date attached
What is included
- Triage of the customer's security request or exhibit: every item sorted into answerable now, answerable with evidence, a gap, or not applicable, with the must-haves called out
- A read of the request against your contract and, where the customer publishes them, its supplier security requirements
- A gap assessment of your current security program against what the customer is asking
- Draft answers that are specific, true and short, with the evidence each one relies on—reviewed so they are defensible in a buyer security review
- An evidence checklist showing what exists, what is missing and who owns each item
- A dated remediation plan with owners
- A recommended path: SOC 2, HITRUST readiness, ISO 27001, a combination, or none of them yet
- A review of your AI features and AI governance questions, when your product uses AI
- A readout session with your leadership
- Work inside your existing compliance platform where you already manage evidence (Vanta, Drata, Secureframe, Thoropass or similar)
Deliverables
- Triage workbook of the customer's request
- Draft responses for your review and submission
- Gap assessment report
- Evidence checklist
- Dated remediation plan
- One-page recommended-path summary
- Readout session
How the Sprint works week by week
You send us the customer's security request or exhibit. We triage every item, find the real gaps, draft answers with evidence, and hand you a dated plan. The planned length is four weeks from the agreed start date, once the agreement is signed and the intake materials are in. On the scoping call we check whether this fits your customer's deadline and, if it does not, agree what comes first.
| When | What we do | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Kickoff and triage of the customer's request. Every item is sorted into answer now, answer with evidence, or a real gap (plus not applicable where that fits) | Triage workbook |
| Weeks 1 to 2 | Interviews with your technical owner and environment checks against the request and your systems | Working notes feeding the gap and evidence work |
| Weeks 2 to 3 | Draft answers that are specific, true and defensible, plus the evidence list for each answer | Draft responses and evidence checklist |
| Weeks 3 to 4 | Gap report and a dated remediation plan, including whether SOC 2, HITRUST, both, or neither is the right next step | Gap assessment report and dated plan |
| Week 4 | Readout with your leadership and, if you want to continue, a fractional CISO retainer proposal sized to the plan | Recommended-path summary, readout, optional retainer proposal |
What we need from you
- The customer's security questionnaire, security exhibit or requirements, plus the relevant contract and BAA sections
- The customer's deadline and a named contact on your side
- A named technical owner for working sessions
- Your existing policies, last penetration test, any audit reports and the systems list
- Access to the compliance platform you already use (when applicable)
- Walkthroughs or read-only access to the systems we need to see, arranged during the engagement and not a condition of starting intake
Out of scope
- The SOC 2 audit itself, which an independent CPA firm performs. We prepare you for it
- Any guarantee that your customer will accept your answers or approve your company
- Carrying out the remediation. This can be added as separate scoped work or done under a retainer
- Penetration testing. If your customer requires it, we scope it separately
- Legal advice or a legal determination of HIPAA compliance
- Compliance platform licenses and auditor fees
- Replacing or competing with Drata, Vanta or AI questionnaire tools—we work on top of them
How it rolls into a fractional CISO retainer
At the readout you choose: run the plan with your own team, add scoped project work, or continue with KN Cyber as your fractional CISO. As your fractional CISO we lead the security program, risk register and policies, vendor risk, incident readiness and your customer security conversations. The triage, answers and plan from the sprint become the starting point, so nothing is redone. The retainer is scoped to your organization and the plan, and quoted separately.
Pricing
Pricing is quoted by organization size and the scope of the review. We do not publish prices. Book a consultation through HubSpot Meetings and we will send you a quote.
